Even before I knew that I had direct bloodlines to people who originated from the Scottish Highlands, one of my favorite flowers was the thistle. From early childhood I remember them growing in our pasture on the family farm. How beautiful and imperious they became late summer. The thistle is the National Flower of Scotland and for good reason, it symbolizes strength, fierceness, defiance and tenaciousness. The true heart of the thistle is that it is a very humble flower, though it does grow to very impressive heights (8 feet). Fall is here and the thistle has lovingly parted with its seed, seeds blowing here and there. Its truly magnificent beauty gone for yet another year- enjoy!
