I was first introduced to steampunk through the eyes of director Tim Burton in the movie Edward Scissorhands. Since that time, Tim Burton has remained my favorite of all directors. To this day steampunk style can be seen in many of his films, including the most recent Alice Through The Looking Glass. I think that the main similarity between Tim Burton’s style in his films and steampunk style is the Neo- Victorian Era. Steampunk is a style that is seen most often in post apocalyptic type movies (industrial/metal type sets) and also in Victorian era and Wild West movies (bustiers, spectacles, pocket watches, other types of timepieces, and mechanical machinery). Steampunk is also a sub-genre of science fiction. It is steam powered machinery, and metal;industrial metal, and retro-type and fantasy like (futuristic) inventions. The first book I read that had a steampunk feel to it was Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne. I think I’ve been in love with steampunk a long time. How about you? Do you like steampunk?
